  • NW-44 The First Commercially Available SUAV Propulsion System Takes Off

    McMinnville, Oregon May 4, 2015   NWUAV, leading supplier of small unmanned propulsion systems, announced today that the company’s innovative  NW-44 UAV engine has successfully completed the first round of flight tests with an undisclosed launch customer. “The NW-44 exceeded our expectations. We are very happy with the performance of this system and are excited to bring this key technology to the UAV market.” said President Chris Harris. In addition, Harris noted that the superior performance of the NW44 has prompted NWUAV’s customer to place orders for an additional 6 units.

    The NW-44, a small UAV propulsion system consisting of a fuel injected 3.6 horsepower engine and a 250watt permanent magnet alternator, has been successfully integrated into an unmanned system and flown through initial flight envelope tests. The NW-44 is developed from the ground up and packaged specifically for the very challenging requirements of Small Unmanned Air Vehicles (SUAV’s) in the range of twenty to forty kilograms. Prior to flight trials the system was tested to the FAA’s stringent FAR 33 endurance standards. The NWUAV designed Battery Backup Module and Power Management Systems were also tested during flight trials.

  • NW-44 and TD100- A match made for the skies

    McMinnville, Oregon May 5, 2015   One look is all it takes to realize the TD100 Unmanned Aircraft System is different. Every aspect of this meticulous machine looks and feels like a real aircraft, and that’s because it is one. In an industry where off-the-shelf systems are being promoted as breakthroughs, where hobbyist parts are being cobbled together and labelled “UAS” - the TD100 comes with an unparalleled pedigree, thanks to Brian Eggleston and Brian McLuckie of Brican.

    Eggleston and McLuckie have incorporated nearly four decades of aviation and automated systems backgrounds into the TD100’s aerodynamic design and flawless mechanics. They have applied the same approach, the same rigor, to this platform as they did when designing and constructing passenger aircraft, with safety, performance and efficiency in mind. Together with the team at Brican they have produced a platform whose avionics, build quality, reliability and payload capacity are second to none.  

    To close the loop in safety of flight Brican is now pairing the TD100 with NWUAV’s NW-44 tractor configuration propulsion system. The NW-44 is the first proven, commercially available propulsion system designed specifically for UAV applications. Chris Harris, owner of NWUAV, has seen to it that this engine set the bar in the sUAS industry well in advance of the impending FAA fight standards being drafted for commercial airspace.  The NW-44 has been wholly manufactured at NWUAV’s state of the art AS9100/ISO9001 certified operations, tested to the FAA’s stringent FAR 33 endurance standards and flown through critical flight envelope tests.

  • McMinnville, Oregon May 5, 2015  NWUAV and RCV Engines Ltd. have entered into a partnership agreement culminating in the issue of a marketing and manufacturing license to NWUAV to further the  pursuit of UAS applications of RCV’s engine technology. In addition NWUAV will become RCV’s production and services supplier, to include technical support, integration and maintenance. The manufacturing license agreement will enable NWUAV to market RCV UAV engines on a global basis with RCV supporting the development of new engine variants.

    RCV‘s flight tested UAV engine design is available as 20cc to 70cc. It can achieve 400 hours durability, 1 hp/lb power to weight and 0.5 lb/hp.hr fuel efficiency. The robust combustion system is tolerant of a wide range of fuels and octane ratings. The engine is easy to calibrate and will provide consistent performance over a wide range of ambient conditions. With controlled operating conditions there is minimal carbonization operating on heavy fuels.

    As a launch project, NWUAV and RCV are currently working together on an innovative UAV heavy fuel engine program for sUAS. Multiple RCV engines are currently in evaluation worldwide, once these programs are solidified, NWUAV will manage manufacturing in the U.S.A. for the global market.

    Chris Harris, Owner at NWUAV said that “RCV needed a high-volume production facility to transition prototype engine builds into full rate production. Our proven expertise in the UAV industry coupled with our AS9100 certified manufacturing facility is a perfect match of capabilities.   • The NW-44 is built to handle aircraft from approximately 50 to 80 pounds depending on requirements. The core and subsystem components alleviate ITAR and end of life concerns and are primed for pending FAA Certification. Scalable for use in various classes of aircraft and incorporates design criteria and specifications not available with hobby based engine designs.   • Custom Engine Test Cell CETC
    The Custom Engine Test Cell (CETC) is self-contained with sound dampening insulation, customized to meet your specific requirements. We offer delivery and setup worldwide and will train your personnel how to perform engine testing with the unit....

  • The CETC is available in twenty or forty foot container lengths and contains a single engine test stand. The CETC can be housed inside or outside with appropriate ductwork. Optional hatches can be provided to allow testing with larger airframes. There are no export restrictions.
