New Orleans, May 3, 2016: Aegis Electronics Group is demonstrating a unique family of external frame grabbers that help imaging system manufacturers and integrators reduce costs, simplify cabling, and speed time-to-market at the AUVSI XPONENTIAL show (booth 355).
The iPORT SB-GigE and SB-U3 external frame grabbers convert Sony block cameras into GigE Vision 2.0 or USB3 Vision cameras and transmit uncompressed, low latency video – along with power and control data – over a single Ethernet or USB 3.0 cable directly to an existing port on a computer platform. By eliminating the need for a PCI/PCIe frame grabber, designers can use smaller footprint, lower power, and less expensive laptops and single-board systems for image processing, analysis, and display.
In comparison, legacy Sony block video interfaces require multiple cables for video transmission and control, external power sources for cameras, and PCI/PCIe frame grabbers to capture images at the PC. This results in more complex systems, longer design times, higher costs, and limited component selection.
The iPORT SB-GigE supports highly reliable, 1 Gb/s data transfer rates, while allowing manufacturers to leverage the flexible networking, extended cabling reach, and Power over Ethernet (PoE) advantages of Gigabit Ethernet (GigE). In applications requiring higher bandwidth transmission over shorter distances, the iPORT SB-U3 supports 2 Gb/s data transfer rates, power over USB (PoUSB), and control over a USB 3.0 link. The external frame grabbers have been designed into medical, robotics, and security applications.
